- May 2018 – Called to adoption
- June 2018 – Researched agencies/country programs
- July 3, 2018 – Submitted adoption application
- July 9, 2018 – Accepted application and U.S. Processing Fee #1 paid
- July 17, 2018 – Welcome call with Holt – Korea program
- July 17, 2018 – Selected Home Study agency (non-branch)
- July 26, 2018 – First Home Study agency meeting
- September 13, 2018 – First in-home Home Study agency meeting
- September 18, 2018 – Notified that Home Study agency (non-branch) is eliminating international adoption program (ugh!)
- September 19-20, 2018 – Adoptive parent and transracial parenting training
- October 3, 2018 – Second in-home Home Study agency meeting
- October 9, 2018 – Third (final) in-home Home Study agency meeting
- October 25, 2018 – Home Study written, approved (by us), and submitted to Holt
- December 20, 2018 – Home Study accepted!!
- December 21, 2018 – U.S. Processing Fee #2 and extra photos mailed
- December 28, 2018 – Mailed home study to state of Wisconsin
- January 5, 2019 – Received approval from the state of Wisconsin
- January 7, 2019 – Applied for I-600A with the USCIS – U.S. Dept. of Homeland Security
- January 11, 2019 – Officially a waiting family!! (Home study sent to Korea)
- February 1, 2019 – USCIS biometrics appointment
- February 20, 2019 – I-600A approval date
- July 30, 2019 – Referral Day!!! Our first time seeing Brooks!
- July 31-August 2, 2019 – Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin medical review
- August 3, 2019 – Acceptance packet submitted
- August 9, 2019 – Submitted dossier to placing agency for review
- August 30, 2019 – Dossier approved and sent to Korea!!
- August – September 2019 – Home study update process begins
- October 11, 2019 – Home study update visit
- December 20, 2019 – Brooks’ 1st Birthday!
- February 5, 2020 – Fingerprint update submitted
- February 14, 2020 – Received fingerprint renewal
- April 24, 2020 – Statement of Adoption
- May 18, 2020 – EP Submission!
- June 15, 2020 – Received Brooks’ legal documents
- June 16, 2020 – Applied for USCIS I-600
- June 19, 2020 – HSU #2 received
- June 20, 2020 – Filed I-600a extension with USCIS
- July 24, 2020 – EP Approval!
- July 30, 2020 – i600A extension approval
- August 9, 2020 – Received Brooks’ Korean passport
- August 11, 2020 – Court submission!
- September 21, 2020 – Notified of court date
- October 8, 2020 – Leave for South Korea
- October 9, 2020 – Enter quarantine
- October 23, 2020 – Exit quarantine
- October 27, 2020 – First meeting with Brooks
- October 29, 2020 – Second meeting with Brooks
- October 30, 2020 – Court hearing!
- November 20, 2020 – Custody! (Adoption Day)
- November 24, 2020 – Visa Interview
- November 26, 2020 – Fly home!
* DUE TO COVID-19 THE TYPICAL ADOPTION PROCESS CHANGED. WE TOOK ONE TRIP TO KOREA AND STAYED IN COUNTRY FOR 7 WEEKS TO COMPLETE THE ADOPTION OF OUR SON.
